Jerome Tang fills Kansas State’s final open scholarship with junior-college transfer

The Kansas State men’s basketball team will have a full assortment of scholarship players on its roster next season.

Anthony Thomas, a 6-foot-7 guard from Tallahassee (Florida) Community College, announced his intent to enroll at K-State later this month and begin playing for new coach Jerome Tang.

His commitment gives K-State 13 scholarship players. It seemed unlikely that Tang would coach a full roster during his first season in Manhattan when only two members from last year’s team chose to return following a turbulent offseason.

But Tang found 11 new players during the spring and the summer to return the Wildcats to full strength. Thomas gave his pledge to K-State a day after prized Florida transfer Keyontae Johnson signed with the school.

Thomas played his freshman season of college basketball at Tennessee-Martin, where he averaged nine points and 2.8 rebounds. After that, he spent a year in junior college and averaged 11 points while making 34.6% of his shots from three-point range.

He will have three years of college eligibility remaining with the Wildcats.
