Prediction
This game is tricky to predict because West Virginia has been a wildly inconsistent football team this season.
All you need to do is look at the Mountaineers’ past two games to realize that.
Two weeks ago, they piled up 492 yards and defeated Iowa State 38-31. Last week, they managed just 133 yards and lost 24-3 against Oklahoma State.
Which team shows up against K-State on Saturday? The answer could determine the final score.
West Virginia owns a five-game winning streak over the Wildcats, including a 37-10 beat down last season. But the Wildcats have been the superior team this season.
K-State ranks ahead of West Virginia in nearly every statistical category and enters this matchup with the momentum of a three-game winning streak.
If the Wildcats play well, they should win. West Virginia has one of the best run defenses in the conference, allowing just 3.6 yards per rush. That could be an issue for Deuce Vaughn. But Skylar Thompson is throwing for 263.6 yards in Big 12 games, so it’s not as if K-State lives and dies with the run anymore.
Stopping running back Leddie Brown and slowing quarterback Jarret Doege could be a challenge for K-State’s defense. In year’s past, the Wildcats struggled against their physicality.
Things should go differently this time around. Expect K-State to end its losing streak in this series.
K-State 27, West Virginia 23.
