Kansas forward Perry Ellis, Kansas State guard Marcus Foster land on preseason Big 12 team
Kansas forward Perry Ellis and Kansas State guard Marcus Foster were both named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team on Thursday.
Ellis, a junior and former Heights standout, was a unanimous selection by the league’s coaches, who voted on the team.
Foster, a sophomore, was selected after leading the Wildcats in scoring as a freshman.
Also on the team are Iowa State forward Georges Niang, Oklahoma junior Buddy Hield (from Wichita’s Sunrise Christian) and West Virginia guard Juwan Staten. Staten won preseason Player of the Year honors, becoming the first Mountaineer to claim the award.
Kansas forward Cliff Alexander and Texas forward Myles Turner shared Freshman of the Year, marking the second time in conference history there has been a tie for the accolade.
Iowa State guard Bryce Dejean-Jones won Newcomer of the Year.
Honorable mentions included Oklahoma forward Ryan Spangler, Oklahoma State forward Le’Bryan Nash, and Jonathan Holmes, Cameron Ridley and Isaiah Taylor of Texas.
College basketball season is more than a month away, but practices begin Friday for many teams.
