Pair of Kansas State defensive linemen no longer listed on Wildcats’ roster
The Kansas State football team has lost another freshman defender.
Ronald Triplette, a 6-foot-1 and 264-pound defensive end, announced plans Wednesday to transfer from K-State and continue his college football career elsewhere next season.
“I would like to thank Kansas State for recruiting me and giving me an opportunity to play at a high level coming out of high school,” Triplette wrote on Twitter. “Manhattan is an amazing town and I’ve made a bunch of great memories. After talking with my family and coaches I would like to say I’ve entered my name in the transfer portal as a freshman. I’m excited to see what comes forward.”
Triplette joins linebacker Demarquese Hayes as the second K-State freshman defensive player to exit the program and announce plans to transfer this fall.
K-State landed Triplette out of Shadow Creek High School as a three-star recruit. He initially chose the Wildcats over interest from Air Force, Florida International, Louisiana-Monroe and Utah State.
Triplette did not play in either of K-State’s first two games this season against Arkansas State and Oklahoma.
He was removed from K-State’s roster Wednesday evening.
But he doesn’t appear to be the only roster loss of the week. Derick Newton, a 6-foot-1 and 271-pound sophomore defensive tackle, is also no longer listed as an active member of the team. Newton transferred to K-State during the offseason from Butler Community College.
No reason has been provided for Newton’s removal from the roster. He later announced that he intended to transfer.
Newton had an strange time with the Wildcats, as he originally signed with K-State out of high school and redshirted in 2018 before leaving for junior college and then briefly returning to Manhattan this season.
He was removed from the roster after playing sparingly in each of K-State’s first two games.
