Five things to know

  1. Is this finally the season Iowa State ends its losing streak to K-State? The Wildcats have won 10 straight against the Cyclones, including nine in a row under Bill Snyder. Many of those victories, including Skylar Thompson’s walk-off touchdown last year, have come in excruciating fashion for Iowa State. Matt Campbell seems to have the team to break the cycle. But this series always seems to go K-State’s way.

  2. The Cyclones are coming off a painful loss. It will be fascinating to see how Iowa State players respond to their recent loss at Texas. The Cyclones entered that game with legitimate Big 12 championship hopes, but the defeat eliminated them from contention. How quickly can they bounce back?

  3. K-State is playing for a bowl. The Wildcats hoped for much more than a lower-tier bowl when the season began, but it’s their biggest goal at the moment. K-State (5-6, 3-5 Big 12) can extend its bowl streak to nine with a win over Iowa State.

  4. Battle of running backs. If you are a fan of star running backs, this is the game for you. Kansas State’s Alex Barnes and Iowa State’s David Montgomery are two of the best ball-carriers in the Big 12. Barnes leads the conference with 1,171 rushing yards, while Montgomery averages 88.7 per game.

  5. Get to know Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy. He’s a freshman, so K-State fans may see him a lot over the coming years. Purdy came off the bench midway through the season and surprisingly led the Cyclones to five straight victories. He has thrown for 1,445 yards and 13 touchdowns.
