Bruce Weber on college basketball’s problems: ‘Hopefully we can get it fixed’
Kansas State basketball coach Bruce Weber knows all about the FBI investigation and trial that are currently hanging over the sport.
In time, he hopes scandal can be removed from college basketball.
“It’s nationwide,” Weber said Wednesday during Big 12 media day at the Sprint Center. “Obviously, there have been some issues and I guess for me it’s sad for the business. At the same time, it’s like anything else, if there is a problem hopefully we can get it fixed. Our game is special. I’ve been involved in it 40 years. It’s been my life, and I’m proud to be involved with it.”
Weber has a reputation as one of the cleanest coaches in college basketball.
He has never encountered trouble with the NCAA, and his recruiting methods are thought to be strictly by the book.
So how does he feel about Kansas, and other teams across the Big 12, being mentioned as potential rule breakers in court?
“I just worry about what we do,” Weber said. “We try to do it right and I think we got good players. We’ve got good kids. So we’ve got an opportunity to be successful and that’s what we’re really focused on. At the same time, the game is important to me and I want things corrected if it can be and hopefully it will be in the future.”
