The Kansas State basketball team gained its first 2019 recruit on Thursday night when Montavious Murphy orally committed to the Wildcats.

He also had scholarship offers from Houston, Texas A&M, Tulsa and several smaller schools.

Murphy is a three-star recruit, according to both Rivals and 247Sports. He is a versatile player, capable of playing both small forward and power forward when he arrives at K-State.
The 2019 recruiting class will be an important one for K-State coach Bruce Weber and his staff, as the Wildcats are set to lose seniors Barry Brown, Kamau Stokes and Dean Wade after the upcoming season. It is expected to be a four-member group, and K-State still has three open scholarships to use on other recruits.
With only Austin Trice and Shaun Williams in the 2018 recruiting class, K-State coaches were able to save one extra scholarship for this recruiting cycle.
