Kansas State basketball transfer Jevon Thomas headed to Seton Hall
Former Kansas State point guard Jevon Thomas is transferring to Seton Hall.
Thomas averaged 4.5 points and 3.3 assists while starting 25 games for the Wildcats as a sophomore. He left K-State in March, hoping to continue his college basketball career closer to his home in Queens, N.Y. He will get that opportunity with Seton Hall, following a recruiting visit to campus.
“Well, first I felt comfortable, I knew a lot of the staff for years,” Thomas told SNY.tv. “But I was most impressed by the skill development.”
Seton Hall recruited Thomas out of high school, but he attended a year of prep school and then chose K-State.
K-State basketball coach Bruce Weber suggested Thomas second-guessed his decision to transfer, saying he asked about returning after announcing his exit plans. But by then it was too late to reverse course.
“He has worked diligently to succeed in our program both athletically and academically,” Weber said when Thomas announced his transfer. “He has made tremendous strides during his time at K-State, but he’s come to the decision he wants to be closer to home. We wish him the best as he moves forward in his college career.”
Thomas was one of six underclassmen to leave K-State this year. Weber dismissed Marcus Foster, Malek Harris and Tre Harris, while Jack Karapetyan, Nigel Johnson and Thomas transferred.
The Wildcats have signed three guards – Carlbe Ervin, Kamau Stokes and Barry Brown – that will compete to replace Thomas and Johnson at the point.
