K-State fan receives disorderly conduct notice after court-storming
A Kansas State student who took part in the court-storming following a basketball game against Kansas on Monday at Bramlage Coliseum has been issued a notice to appear for disorderly conduct, university police announced Wednesday.
In a news release, K-State police identified the fan as Nathan Power, who was caught on camera deliberately colliding shoulder first with Kansas forward Jamari Traylor as he exited the floor.
“Nathan Power voluntarily met with K-State police and was issued a notice to appear for disorderly conduct,” the university said in the release. “Power was cooperative throughout the process, and the K-State Police Department considers this matter closed.”
K-State police announced on Twitter early Tuesday that they were searching for the K-State fan that bumped Traylor, and asked the public for help identifying him. Later in the day, K-State police said they no longer needed assistance.
A person identifying himself as Power then wrote a letter to K-State’s student newspaper, admitting that he ran into Traylor and apologizing for the incident.
“I want to take this moment to share a sincere apology in breaking from the Wildcat way and stepping outside what is acceptable in the spirit of a game,” the letter read. “Following the basketball game, I simply let my emotions get the best of me in all of the chaos.
“In my excitement I was not careful of the people I was around. I am sorry that I made the KU basketball team – Jamari Traylor in particular – feel disrespected.”
K-State president Kirk Schulz also wrote a letter to the student paper, asking students to be aware of how their actions impact the school’s image during basketball games.
“Good reputations are hard won and easily lost,” Schulz wrote. “We believe the Wildcat Way is to create a family friendly atmosphere at all of our athletic events. Let’s put on the purple and represent our university with pride in all of our upcoming athletic events.”
