An exciting weekend of college football led to some changes in my latest top 25 ballot.

Let’s break them down:

Movement up top: I can see why some are already saying college football’s new playoff system should expand to eight teams. It’s hard to choose a top four. I kept Florida State at No. 1, because of its undefeated record. But the Seminoles don’t look like world beaters. I won’t be surprised if Georgia Tech beats them in the ACC championship game. TCU stays at No. 2 after its blowout of Texas. Alabama stays at No. 3 following its win over Auburn and Oregon remains at No.4 after its win against Oregon State. Then Baylor and Ohio State each move up a spot thanks to a loss from Mississippi State. Kansas State jumps up two spots to seventh, while Arizona vaults to eighth following a nice win over Arizona State.

Biggest jump: Georgia Tech moved up seven spots to No. 20 thanks to a victory over Georgia. It came late in the season, but it was one of the best nonconference wins of the year. Boise State also took advantage of losses from other teams to make a jump to to 16th. The Broncos may be the nation’s best team outside of the power five conferences. Missouri is also all the way up to 12th as the SEC East champs.

Biggest drop: Marshall only has one loss, but it was enough to send it tumbling out of the top 25.

New arrivals: Welcome Air Force and Memphis.
