The state of Mississippi is now the center of the college football universe.

I moved Mississippi State to the top of my ballot this week after the Bulldogs defeated LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn consecutively. All three opponents were ranked in the top 10, and Mississippi State has now won nine straight dating back to last season.

Right behind it is Mississippi, which has beaten Alabama and Texas A&M back-to-back.

I am already looking forward to Nov. 29, when these Mississippi powers meet in a must-see game.

There was plenty of other action, and movement on my ballot this weekend. Let’s break it down:

Movement up top: There are six undefeated teams in college football, and all six are in my top 25. Five of the six are in my top five. Mississippi State and Mississippi lead the way, but Florida State, Baylor and Notre Dame are right behind them. Baylor moved up to fourth after a thrilling victory over TCU.

Biggest jump: Mississippi State went from fifth to first, so it is the biggest climber in this week’s poll. Several other teams jumped up three spots, mostly due to teams previously ranked ahead of them losing.

Biggest drop: UCLA fell 10 spots to No. 23. I still think the Bruins belong in the top 25, but consecutive home losses to Utah and Oregon have them near the bottom of my poll.

See you later: Just when it looked like Georgia Tech might be the class of the ACC (behind Florida State) it loses at home to Duke.

New arrivals: Greetings Colorado State. At 5-1, with victories over Colorado, Boston College and Nevada, this looks like the best team in the Mountain West.
