Kellis Robinett’s college football rankings (Oct. 5)

I can’t recall a crazier weekend of college football. Four of the nation’s top six teams lost. Five of the nation’s top eight teams lost. The team I ranked first, Oklahoma, in my last Associated Press Top 25 ballot went down. You found pandemonium everywhere you looked.

Sorting through the results wasn’t easy. Let’s break it down:

Movement up top: Auburn moves to the top of my ballot following a blowout victory over LSU. Auburn has looked stellar all season, beating Kansas State on the road and destroying opponents at home. But that was hardly the only major change in my top 10. Florida State was the biggest benefactor of upset Saturday, moving up three spots to No. 2. Mississippi climbs six spots to No. 3 following its big victory over Alabama. TCU soars from 22nd to fourth with a strong win over Oklahoma. And Mississippi State and Notre Dame both go from just outside the top 10 to inside the top six. Arizona is also new to my top 10 after upsetting Oregon on the road.

Biggest jump: TCU was a hard team to figure through its first three games. The Horned Frogs looked dominant beating Samford, Minnesota and SMU by a combined score of 134-21. But those results came against Samford, Minnesota and SMU. Hard to tell how good a team is against that schedule. Well, we know how good TCU is now. It knocked off Oklahoma and looked like a legit Big 12 title contender doing so.

Biggest drop: I liked BYU more than most, thinking they had a shot at an undefeated season behind quarterback Taysom Hill. But that is no longer possible following a home loss to Utah State in which Hill suffered a season-ending injury. The Cougars drop from 10th to unranked. I considered keeping them in the top 25, based on their strong resume, but they are a weak team without Hill.

See you later: Wisconsin, LSU and Southern California all joined BYU on the way off my ballot. All three teams have two losses.

New arrivals: East Carolina and Marshall both join my top 25 for the first time, while Arizona State and Utah return after big road victories.
