Errors add to Wingnuts’ road woes
Wichita’s road woes grew Saturday in Fargo.
The Wingnuts yielded four unearned runs in the fifth, dropping a 7-3 decision to the RedHawks. Two Wingnuts errors in the fifth inning led to four unearned runs.
T.J. Mittelstaedt hit his second homer of the second in the third to give the Wingnuts a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Wichita scored but missed a good opportunity to get more. Christian Stringer and Zack Cox singled. Dustin Geiger walked to load the bases. Mittelstaedt struck out, then Richard Prigatano walked to force in Stringer. However, Harrison Kain popped out to shortstop to end the threat.
The loss is Wichita’s fifth in its last six games. Charlie Leesman, making his Wichita debut, took the loss, allowing two earned runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings.
In the first five games of the road trip the opposition is hitting .366 against Wingnuts pitching. The Wingnuts are hitting .280 on the trip. Wichita has allowed 50 runs in the five games.
