State Bound Again!!! Chapman dominant in Regional playoff victories

Scholz and Harold lead Lady Irish softball team

For the second time in back to back years, the Chapman Lady Irish punched their ticket to the 4A State Softball tournament.

Chapman, who hosted their regional on Tuesday, was dominant in their two games as they shut out both Ulysses by a score of 17-0 in their opener, and Augusta 6-0 in the Regional Championship game.

The Lady Irish got a combined solid effort both offensively, and defensively to carry them to their victories. Offensively, sophomore Kennedy Scholz led Chapman on the day by collectively going 7-7 in both games, with a pair of Home Runs, including a Grand Slam, totaling six RBI's. Junior Jai Rogers also collected multiple hits in each game with two apiece. Defensively, the Lady Irish pitching was dominant as sophomore Olivia Harold threw eight shutout innings combined in both games, while senior Kaylee Livingston threw two shutout innings to close out the first game for the victory.

In the opening game, Chapman wasted no time taking control of the shortened run rule, three inning game as they raced out to a 12-0 first inning lead in route to their 17-0 victory over Ulysses.

In the bottom of the first, the Lady Irish would bat through the lineup and take advantage of multiple hits, including a two RBI single by Callie Cook, and the Grand Slam Home Run by Kennedy Scholz. Chapman, in their last at bat of the game, then added four runs in the bottom of the second inning aided by five earned walks and two hit batters.

Lady Irish pitchers Olivia Harold, and Kaylee Livingston combined to throw a no hit, shutout victory in the game. Harold who started the game would throw just one inning before Livingston took over and closed out the final two innings to preserve the 17-0 victory.

In the Regional Championship game, the Chapman defensive play paved the way for the Lady Irish to secure a 6-0 shutout victory over the Augusta Lady Orioles.

Starting pitcher Olivia Harold was dominant on the mound as she threw a shutout, 10 strikeout, complete game to earn the victory. The defensive play behind Harold was also on their game as highlight plays including a play in the first inning by second baseman Callie Cook to first baseman Kennedy Scholz would double up and stop a potential rally, along with an outstanding outfield, fence colliding catch by Teagan Ellis in the seventh inning, deep in centerfield would steal a homerun.

After a pair of opening base hits in the bottom of the first inning by Scholz and Rogers, Chapman would take advantage of a Harold hit ball that would create an error and score a pair of runs. Harold then scored a run on a passed ball to give the Lady Irish a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

While Harold continued to roll on the mound, Chapman scored single runs in the bottom of the second, and fourth innings. Scholz drove in Kyah Bell in the bottom of the second inning for a 4-0 lead, and Rogers would drive in Bell in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Irish scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Scholz led off the inning with a solo homerun over the centerfield fence to take a 6-0 lead. Chapman closed the game in the seventh inning by playing solid defense including a play by shortstop Jai Rogers and a pair of put outs by centerfielder Teagan Ellis that included, the homerun saving catch at the fence.

The Lady Irish are now 23-5 on the season will await their first-round state seeding location assignment, with games that are scheduled for next Monday (Memorial Day) May 25th.
