Kansas freshman men’s basketball shooting guard Kohl Rosario, who started six games and came off the bench in 23 contests during the 2025-26 season, has decided to return to KU for his sophomore campaign.

He made the announcement on Monday afternoon on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

“I’m honored to have Kansas across my chest,” Rosario said in a video on X. “It’s something that never can be taken from me. It’s just a great feeling to know I’ll be part of this culture and history here. Basketball is my life.

“It’s gotten me to places I never thought I’d be able to make it to. Playing in Allen Fieldhouse ... words can’t describe it. It’s different. Basketball is everything here. When you’ve got the fans behind your back. It adds a little confidence. That’s why I’m back.”

Rosario, a 6-foot-6 native of Miami, had been contemplating entering the NCAA transfer portal but instead will try to improve on his 3.4-point scoring average and 1.3 rebound mark at KU.

Rosario hit 42.5% of his shots as a freshman. His 3-point percentage was 28.6%.

Rosario started the first six games of the 2025-26 season. For the year, he averaged 11.6 minutes per contest. He was 2-for-2 from 3 against Houston in the Big 12 Tournament and 1-for-1 from 3 against St. John’s in the second round of the NCAAs.

He scored a season-high 16 points against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and had 13 points versus Davidson, which included three 3s. He led KU in steals three times and had five games with four or more rebounds.

Rosario in 2024-25 averaged 15.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game for the YNG Dreamerz of the Overtime Elite program.

In the playoffs he averaged 13.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals in seven games. Additionally, he was 12-for-29 (41.4%) from 3 in his team’s playoff title run.

Prior to OTE, Rosario played two seasons at Moravian Prep in Hudson, North Carolina. In 2023-24, he averaged 25.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and made 60 3s, shooting 35.3% from beyond the arc in 24 games.

At this time, Rosario and Corbin Allen, who redshirted last season, are the Jayhawks’ returning scholarship players on the 2026-27 roster.

Paul Mbiya, who told The Star he will have an announcement “very soon,” is a strong candidate to also return and play a sophomore season at KU.

Elmarko Jackson, Jamari McDowell, Flory Bidunga, Bryson Tiller and Samis Calderon have entered the portal. Calderon has chosen Butler as his transfer destination. Darryn Peterson has completed a one-and-done season at KU.
