  • Kansas faces Houston at Allen Fieldhouse at 8 p.m. after a rare home loss.

As hundred of KU students filed into Allen Fieldhouse Sunday morning — preparing for a lottery drawing process to set the order for their camping groups — a special guest imparted some words of wisdom.

Those students were expecting to learn the order they’d be seated for Monday night’s matchup between No. 8 KU basketball and No. 2 Houston.

But first, there was the surprise visitor: Kansas coach Bill Self.

Several accounts belonging to students and campus groups shared images, video and accounts of Self’s visit Sunday morning.

Some said Self apologized for KU’s shocking home loss to Cincinnati over the weekend and asked for their full support Monday.

“I was thinking this morning, because we didn’t play well yesterday,“ Self told the students in one video. “We got beat, but you know what — isn’t that kind of life sometimes? It just doesn’t go (as) scripted. Sometimes, things happen that you don’t expect.”

One fan account wrote on X that Self spoke about how great the college years are — and how important Monday night’s environment will be.

Kansas has not lost back-to-back home games since the 1988-89 season.

Take your college years “in slo mo,” that post on X read. “But tomorrow night at 8, put that sucker in overdrive.”

Kansas (20-7, 10-4 Big 12) will meet Houston (23-4, 11-3 Big 12) at 8 p.m. Monday night. The game will be shown on ESPN.
