Kansas Amateur golf tournament starts Tuesday with qualifying
Three-time champion Bryan Norton leads the field of the Kansas Amateur into stroke-play qualifying Tuesday and Wednesday at Wichita Country Club.
Norton, who won in 1980, 2002 and 2014, is joined by three other former champions. Darren Copp won in 1987, Corey Novascone in 1996, Sean Thayer in 1999 and Chase Hanna in 2013.
A field of 156 golfers tee off beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday. After stroke-play rounds, the low 64 players advance to match-play rounds beginning Thursday. The 36-hole championship match is Sunday. Norton, of Mission Hills, defeated Wichita’s Sam Stevens 2 and 1 in last year’s final.
This is the 12th time Wichita Country Club has hosted the Kansas Amateur.
