Katie Swan wins third-round match in Wimbledon girls singles
Wichitan Katie Swan won her third-round match in the girls division at Wimbledon on Wednesday.
Swan, the No. 5 seed, defeated No. 9 seed Sofia Kenin of the United States 7-6 (1), 6-2.
Swan, 16, attended Collegiate High after moving to Wichita from Bristol, England.
Though she got less than half of her first serves in, Swan outplayed the 16-year-old Kenin by winning 79 percent of her first-serve points. Swan had 27 winners to Kenin’s 16 and had four aces to Kenin’s one.
Swan will play in the quarterfinals against Victoria Kuzmova, 17, of Slovakia.
“If I play well I think I have a good chance of doing well this week,” Swan told Wimbledon.com after her second-round victory. “I just want to enjoy it.”
