Kevin Jenks promoted to CEO of Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission, adds to staff
The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission has hired from within, as the board of directors announced Monday they have promoted Kevin Jenks to the organization’s president and chief executive officer.
Jenks has been a mainstay in the Wichita sports scene since 2014 when he took over the National Baseball Congress World Series. He has served as the interim president of the GWASC since November following the abrupt departure of Mike Sharpe.
“I’m humbled and honored for this wonderful opportunity with the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission,” said Jenks in a statement. “Over the last 25 years, the sports commission has served our community in a variety of ways, while cultivating strong relationships. We’re building a dynamic staff. One that greatly cares about our core events and is hungry for more opportunities.”
Before joining the NBC, the Garden Plain native worked for five years in corporate recruiting, sales, marketing and business development, then joined the Wichita Wingnuts organization for two seasons beginning in 2013.
“We greatly appreciate Kevin’s service to the GWASC and look forward to continued success in 2022 and beyond,” chairman of the board Jeff Weiford said in a statement.
It was also announced the GWASC added two employees to its staff in Scott Vang and Brian Turner. Vang has spent most of the last three decades as a high school teacher, football coach and athletic director, most recently as the athletic director at El Dorado, while Turner has more than a decade of experience working in the front office of professional baseball teams in Wichita.
