Yes, as part of the new feature in the NFL’s schedule, they are shifting two games from Sunday afternoon to standalone slots on Saturday, and the Chiefs and Broncos drew the lucky number.
Kickoff will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Denver, with the broadcast set for ABC and ESPN.
The first matchup between the Chiefs and Broncos also got flexed, though that game was simply pushed back to Sunday night.
This one will require a change in each team’s planning — not only a short week but one that arrives on short notice.
The league wants games with playoff implications in its standalone spots for the final week of the regular season, and the game certainly applies. For the Chiefs anyway. The Broncos have been eliminated from playoff contention.
While the Chiefs have already clinched the AFC West division, their seeding is very much up for grabs. With their loss Sunday to the Bengals, they fell to the No. 2 seed in the conference, but they can still move up to No. 1 with a win and a Titans loss. The Titans play in Houston this week.
The Chiefs could also fall backward in the conference standings in a handful of other scenarios.
The Chiefs-Broncos will kick off Week 18, and their division rivals will close it out. The Chargers-Raiders matchup is being flexed to Sunday Night Football — the game will determine the final AFC Wild Card spot.
The Cowboys and Eagles game will be played Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
