Reports: Chuck Broyles to retire as Pitt State football coach

PITTSBURG — Longtime Pittsburg State University football coach and athletic director Chuck Broyles is expected to announce his retirement as coach.

The Pittsburg Morning Sun and Joplin Globe reported that Broyles would announce his retirement at a news conference this afternoon, effective immediately.

Broyles has coached the Gorillas for 20 years and has been athletic director since 1996.

In a news release today, Pittsburg State said President Steve Scott would outline changes to the university's intercollegiate athletics program at the news conference.

The announcement comes a week after Broyles was cited for misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop in Galena. He is scheduled to appear in city court Tuesday in Galena.
