Gov. Sam Brownback said the equalization of school funding was a legitimate issue for the Kansas Supreme Court to address. But he told KCPT, the public television station in Kansas City, that there is a lot of concern about whether it is the role of the courts to determine the adequacy of school funding. “That is inherently a legislative determination to be made,” he said. So would Brownback and the Legislature have a case to defy a court ruling on adequacy, which could come later this year? “Let’s see when that comes up,” Brownback said, “because that’s been a threat for some time.” – Phillip Brownlee
