Though it’s hard to believe, based on recent elections and the Statehouse status quo, Kansas is only the seventh most Republican state, according to a new report from the Gallup Poll. Based on political party identification and the leanings of state residents in 2014, the Republican advantage in Kansas is 12.3 percent, compared with Wyoming’s first-place 35.5 percent. Utah, Idaho, South Dakota, Montana and Alabama were also deemed redder than Kansas, with Massachusetts the most Democratic state. Kansas has been in Gallup’s Republican top 10 every year since 2008. Gallup reported that over the past seven years, “there has been a significant movement away from the Democratic Party both at the national level and in many states.” – Rhonda Holman
