Opinion Line Extra (Feb. 5)

The Shockers baseball team had a mild foul-up with merchandise and will have up to 74 wins taken away. The Patriots got caught cheating outright. Why weren’t their wins taken away, putting the Colts in the Super Bowl?

The Super Bowl should be on pay-per-view.

Is rearranging the dirt on I-135 and I-235 all the Kansas highway maintenance department has to do?

The turn lane is the lane in the center that lets you move out of active traffic. Some of you attempt to turn from the active lane; some of you enter the turn lane at a 45-degree angle, making the turn lane useless. Please correct this as soon as possible.

Last winter during the bad snowstorms, Mayor Carl Brewer was never on TV explaining the situation, and the same for the current water-line break. Was he over in Africa?

Gov. Sam Brownback wants to pay schools for performance. At this point on his scale, he owes the people of Kansas every penny we have paid him. Who is supposed to gain from cheating our children?

I believe that Brownback is a modern-day snake-oil salesman. I hope the current Legislature isn’t as gullible as the last one in implementing his poison.

Brownback and Vladimir Putin must have taken the same economic course in college.

In Obama’s mind, a pipeline is more dangerous than a terrorist and coal is worse than a car bomb.

An example of liberals wanting it both ways: When discussing global warming, they insist that it must be true because scientists confirm it. When discussing the relationship between fracking and earthquakes, they attempt to ridicule the scientists.

Kansas’ second big experiment: Build the Keystone XL pipeline through the state’s only major aquifer, and continue it on through the fracking earthquake zone to see what happens.

Google the military records of all the leading Republican war-loving politicians and right-wing blowhards, and the answer is always the same: Did not serve.

Editorial cartoonist Richard Crowson isn’t demonizing conservatives. The reactionaries who mistake themselves for conservatives are doing that job all by themselves.

With apologies to Dorothy Parker: Men seldom make passes at girls who wear black plastic frame glasses.

I didn’t think it could get any worse than Stephen Colbert. I was wrong, wrong, wrong.
