Opinion Line (Feb. 4)

In accordance with the way our state’s government has been working, rather than promoting the channel catfish as the state fish, maybe they ought to consider the bullhead.

We absolutely need to change how our state Supreme Court justices are picked. Kansas is overwhelmingly Republican, but the court is decidedly Democrat. We have seen these justices make up law to advance Democrat policy.

I’m sure if we just explain to the legislators that we expect the reduction of marijuana penalties to act like a shot of adrenaline to the prosecution of offenses, they’ll think, “Oh, that sounds reasonable.”

Have Kansans gone completely insane? Carrying a concealed firearm without any training or license? If this passes, I hope every police officer in the state resigns, and I bet a lot of them will.

Crime and shootings every day in Wichita, and the Legislature and Gov. Sam Brownback want more guns, no regulations.

Brownback’s brilliant plan to bring tens of thousands of jobs to gun-friendly, machinist-populated Wichita will have one predictable, short-term effect: the mandatory Richard Crowson meltdown on The Eagle’s Opinion page.

The right to carry a concealed weapon without a license is going to drop our crime rates, make public events safer, and put an end to the red tape you go through to get a permit. Men, women and children will all sleep safer now.

Our state has laws requiring everyone in automobiles wear seat belts. Why? Because it saves lives. There are no religious or philosophical exemptions. If you don’t agree, don’t ride in automobiles. Likewise with vaccines, we should have laws requiring their use, with no religious or philosophical exemptions.

Why is it necessary for college basketball players to approach the shooter and exchange hand slaps between foul shots? It looks silly. Wouldn’t shouting “Good shot!” or “You’ll get this one” suffice? Also, why do people contribute trivial things to Opinion Line?

Punxsutawney Phil came out of his burrow. The first thing he said was, “What were the Seahawks thinking?”

To the contributor who wondered about the point of white crayons: Is there no multicolored paper in your world?
