Huelskamp says he’ll lead House Tea Party Caucus

Though he remains on the fringes of the official GOP majority in the House, Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler, has claimed a leadership role for himself in the new Congress. “I’m going to be chairman of the Tea Party Caucus. We’re taking that over. We are going to reinvigorate that,” he recently told Bloomberg News. The caucus was launched in 2010 and formerly led by Rep. Michele Bachmann, who did not run for re-election last year. At one point it had 60 House members, and its revival would give Huelskamp a platform from which to criticize the Republicans in charge of the House and Senate as insufficiently conservative and too easy on the Obama administration. – Rhonda Holman
