State budget hole keeps getting bigger
The state’s budget problems keep getting worse as state tax revenue keeps missing the estimates. January tax collections were a whopping $47 million less than projections. And keep in mind, those projections were drastically reduced in November – yet the state is still missing them. Gov. Sam Brownback and state lawmakers now must not only fill a larger budget shortfall this fiscal year – about $330 million – they’d better make plans for how to respond if the revenue keeps dropping, as seems likely. – Phillip Brownlee
