Opinion Line Extra (June 28)

It would be a very sad day for this country if Donald Trump became president.

If a candidate for public office offers to repeal Obamacare, you should turn carefully and run – don’t walk – in the other direction.

If not for the NRA and its funding, conservatives wouldn’t be pounding their chests over protection of the Second Amendment.

Our rights don’t exist because of the Bill of Rights; the Bill of Rights exists to prevent the government from encroaching on our God-given rights. The government doesn’t grant us our rights; they simply are, no matter what.

I actually agree that weapons with huge clips, etc., are unnecessary. But I’ll have respect for the black Democrat lawmakers and their “sit-in” when they start showing as much concern for the gun violence in Chicago, etc. (most of which is from handguns and affects black communities disproportionately).

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the illegal immigrants have to go home. Poor old Obama loses again. Now Kansas will save a lot of money.

When Texas’ lieutenant governor tweets Scripture implying the Orlando victims wouldn’t be dead if they respected God’s law, and a California pastor tells his congregation they are safer because 50 people are dead, we have much more to fear than radical Islamic terrorists.

Funny, I did not know Grover Norquist lived in Kansas (“Norquist endorses more liquor sales,” June 23 Now Consider This). Makes you wonder who really is running our government in Topeka, now doesn’t it?

I wish that the new Wichita police chief would worry as much about all the traffic accidents caused by drivers running red lights as he does about a few drunks in Old Town after midnight. Bring back the police motorcycle unit to catch the red-light runners.

As a motorcyclist, I only have one headlight to see with at night. I fear hitting objects or animals, alive or dead. Kansas law says that I don’t have to turn down my bright and only light. Please be considerate and don’t flash your brights, plural, at me.

For those walkers, joggers and dog walkers who don’t use the opposite side of the street: Try it and you will find it’s much safer and more comfortable having the traffic coming from behind you on the other side.

The Sonic boys are a scream (very funny), and deserve our support. Progressive Flo, not so much.

It has become obvious to me that the editor of Opinion Line does not recognize humor, wit or great intellect, as not all of my submissions to Opinion Line are printed.
