Opinion Line (Jan. 29)

It’s definitely the smart way to make your case by interrupting the speech of a man who supports your cause, as was done at the mayor’s State of the City address.


Illegal immigration is the migration of people across national borders unlawfully. If you are not here legally, you are here illegally and have no rights under any laws since you do not believe in obeying laws.


“It’s a free country” refers to the freedom that many of us cherish in this country. More and more people seem to think everything should be free. How much more are the taxpayers willing to do?

I’ve never been a big fan of the first lady, but Michelle Obama – you rock for not covering your head in Saudi Arabia. It’s about time someone stood up to the Islamic world.

Our governor is proposing a 17 percent cut in funding to public television and public radio. It’s up to all the loyal “Downton Abbey” followers to set him straight. This time maybe he’ll learn something from the voters.


A Wichita Democrat wants the state to raise the minimum wage by $3 over the next three years, including by 13.8 percent on July 1. If my Social Security check would go up 13.8 percent, I could tip more.


Following state legislators in The Eagle day to day as they pass laws governing our daily lives can be – for students, parents and teachers – a million times more exciting and rewarding than just gaping and gawking at a ball swishing through a basket during the coming March Madness.


I don’t agree with using the back of an athlete’s jersey to announce that he is a Sr., Jr., I, II or III. I won’t confuse the player with his 70-year-old grandfather. Why not just cut to the chase and print the family tree on the back of jerseys?


I hate shopping at a grocery store where young people shop. They always walk out the door with a look that proclaims they know exactly where they parked their car.
