Brownback should call special session, not make threats

Gov. Sam Brownback vowed Wednesday to “respond aggressively and appropriately to any action taken by the Kansas Supreme Court to close our schools.” That sounded like a threat to defy the court order to equitably fund public schools. That would be a terrible mistake – both politically for Brownback and GOP legislators and for the well-being of Kansas teachers and schoolkids. Instead of making threats, Brownback needs to call a special legislative session to resolve the funding inequity as soon as possible. – Phillip Brownlee
