Any zoo that shoots an animal because of the stupidity of a visitor should be closed permanently. It is not protecting either.
The animal activists need to get their priorities straight. The gorilla needed to be killed to save that little boy. Accidents happen. Children get away in a blink of an eye. It’s not always the parent’s fault. Is an animal more precious than a child?
Gorillas matter also. But in case something – albeit unlikely – happened, the zoo had to protect against lawsuits.

I want to thank editor Sherry Chisenhall for her many years of dedication to the paper, the community and The Wichita Eagle’s readership. My cats always wanted more cat comics in the paper, but in all other respects, they too send a big purr-y thanks to her.
Thank you, Wichita Eagle, for the return of the old crossword. It provides 20 or 30 minutes of memory exercise each morning. For most, the Universal Crossword is an exercise in looking up answers via electronics. Not my bag.
To the North Rock Road dog walker: We miss you.
