Will Legislature succeed in overriding Brownback veto?

It remains to be seen whether enough state lawmakers show up to Wednesday’s ceremonial end of the legislative session to override Gov. Sam Brownback’s veto of a tax bill, but it is certainly worth trying. The Legislature unanimously approved the bill that would enable Kansans to present new evidence before a district court when challenging tax rulings. Brownback’s veto seemed based more on an ongoing tax dispute with retired pizza magnate Gene Bicknell than on what’s the best public policy. – Phillip Brownlee
