State board asking schools about transgender bathrooms

Here is a concept: The Kansas State Board of Education is asking local school officials what they think about a recent federal directive on the use of bathroom and locker room facilities by transgender students. Meanwhile, some state lawmakers are already planning a response: either a letter or a formal resolution condemning the guidelines. A bill that didn’t advance this session but could return next year would have mandated that schools require transgender students to use the facilities corresponding to the sex recorded on their birth certificate. Many school officials likely will have this response: Let us handle this issue ourselves without federal or state interference and politicizing. – Phillip Brownlee
