Nearly half of local lawmakers get zeros on scorecard

You know elections are approaching when various groups begin releasing scorecards on how incumbents voted. One of the latest is by the MainStream Coalition (mainstreamcoalition.org), a group that believes “moderate voices need to be heard in today’s political climate.” It rated state lawmakers based on votes this legislative session and past years in six broad categories: fiscal sanity, public education, judicial independence, church and state, health care, and gun safety. Of 32 Sedgwick County lawmakers rated, eight received perfect 100 percent scores and 14 received zeros. – Phillip Brownlee
