Opinion Line Extra (May 22)

If the worst we have to worry about is who is next to us in a restroom, then maybe we need another good war.

Earth to fearful conservative legislators: Which restroom were transgender individuals using before you passed your ill-advised legislation?

Republicans always campaign on less government yet continued to propose laws that are some of the most invasive into our personal lives, all under the title of “conservatism.”

The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed substantial increases in ethanol production. It said the increases were “ambitious.” That is government-speak for being devoid of any thought or common sense.

Pay attention to Brazil’s fragile economy as it’s a precursor to what’s coming here.

To evangelicals who are for Donald Trump: Do you recall the expression “selling your soul to the devil”?

The haters say that Trump flip-flops on the issues. How do they explain him speaking on camera 30 years ago about foreign policy, for one example, and saying he believed exactly the same then as he says and believes today?

If Trump is president, he won’t lead the executive branch but the suggestive branch.

When I run for president my platform is going to be cake for everybody, and my slogan will be: “Make America Cake Again!”

If people are so scared they can’t leave their homes without carrying a gun, then they should just stay at home.

Our governor doesn’t like some kinds of federal programs that would benefit Kansas. And he is more apt to raid the till than to figure out how to fill the coffers. Does the Brownback family still like farm subsidies?

Someone ran over a fox on the bridge on 37th Street North just east of Seneca. Who would run over an animal trapped on a bridge? You are either an incredibly bad driver, you were drunk, or you are incredibly cruel.

I don’t have a beard because I’m a conformist. It’s laziness, pure and simple. You just don’t shave for a few days, and then you say, “Huh, let’s see where this is going.” Besides, this pathetic scrub took me six months.

People who are liars are the first ones to tell their stories to others.

I read with some sadness the passing of Morley Safer. He was a true journalist and one of the last of dying breed. I wish the young reporters of today could learn something about ethics in journalism.
