Southwest slower to tap revenue guarantee dollars
As the state considers extending its $5 million for affordable air service only one more year, Southwest Airlines appears to be behind last year’s pace in claiming the revenue guarantee dollars for its service to Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. According to Sedgwick County, which administers the contract with the low-fare carrier, Southwest asked for and received $2.16 million for the first four months of the fiscal year that began July 1. Last year it took just eight months for it to claim the full $6.5 million in combined state, city and county funds. – Rhonda Holman
