Kansas needs more foster homes
Want to make a difference in our state and in the lives of vulnerable children? Consider becoming a foster parent. The need is great, and growing. Nearly 6,700 Kansas children are in foster care – a record number. Yet Kansas has only 2,750 licensed foster homes. “There is a great need in the foster care system, and there are many roles to play,” first lady Mary Brownback said at a news conference last week. People in the Wichita area who are interested in becoming foster parents can contact Saint Francis Community Services at 800-423-1342 or visit its website, st-francis.org. – Phillip Brownlee
