Good to see Bothner and Bradley back on county job

Howell
Howell

Credit Sedgwick County Commission Chairman Jim Howell for recognizing that a subcontractor should not have been removed from a county road study in March based on his personal feelings about the firm. It was appropriate that the Bothner and Bradley public relations firm was invited to rejoin the Arkansas River Crossing-95th Street South Corridor Plan last week by the county’s public works department and project contractor TranSystems. And as Howell acknowledged about the “misunderstanding,” it would be inappropriate for a subcontractor on a county-approved project to be fired without an open meeting and a majority vote of the County Commission. Here’s hoping the commission also heeds the alarm, sounded by The Eagle editorial board and others in the community, over what had looked like the use of government contracting to punish county critics. – Rhonda Holman
