Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, cited the limited time between now and the August primary, along with his busy legislative schedule, for his decision not to run for U.S. Senate against Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan. That certainly would have been a challenge, along with Moran’s campaign war chest. But weren’t those limitations known a few weeks ago, when Pompeo began criticizing Moran and suggesting he might challenge him? Why damage an important legislative relationship if you weren’t already certain there was time to mount “the kind of campaign that Kansans deserve”? – Phillip Brownlee
