Opinion Line Extra (April 18)

They call it the Democratic Party. However, the New York debate between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders was not very festive.

Is Secretary of State Kris Kobach ever going to arrest those noncitizen voters, or is he just delusional about their existence?


Now not only do you have to show your birth certificate to register to vote, you have to show it to use a public restroom.


On religious grounds, shouldn’t a business in one of the states that are passing all of these ridiculous anti-LGBT laws be allowed to refuse service to an ultraconservative who is known to harbor strong feelings against the LGBT community?


Republicans represent and protect corporations and the wealthy. That’s why they’re pushing for privatization, which is code for outsourcing resulting in lower working-class wages. This is why Republicans have no chance in winning a national election unless they restrict and rig the voting.


News flash: Trying to shame a politician into doing something that would be common sense to the general public would be akin to trying to shame a shark into not ripping your arm off because it might give him a bad reputation. It doesn’t faze them.


To conflate the functioning of a society with that of a market is really just kind of stupid.


Someone commented that school funding has increased every year Gov. Sam Brownback has been in office. This is the same lie told by the administration that the Kansas Supreme Court has already stated was a sham.


OK, spending “on education” has increased every year during Brownback’s governorship. Increases went for transportation, maintenance, food service and utilities. Teachers received little, if any, raises while budget line items depleted left districts without the ability to pay for emergency expenditures.


The state of Kansas should fine drivers who use handheld cellphones $500. I am tired of drivers using cellphones and not paying attention to driving.


For the person wanting to know where all the speeders are: They are in the 50 mph zones on East and West Kellogg. Police could take a big bite out of any city deficits by patrolling those zones for just a few hours each day.


I am a retired, middle-class Caucasian, and I just want to say that Leonard Pitts’ column “Though it is sometimes necessary, war is never good” (April 11 Opinion) showed why he is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. That little girl always has been, and always will be, standing there.
