Opinion Line Extra (April 7)

I know families will thank the Kansas Legislature accordingly for early school starting times in the next election.

The Maryland-based advocacy group Start School Later can call the possible move to earlier classes “unconscionable,” but what does it suggest a school board do if the state will not fund the schools adequately in the face of rising costs when its own governor did the same thing last year?

About the budget crisis facing USD 259: I would love for The Wichita Eagle to publish the USD 259 budget every year for the last 10 years. That pretty much explains why we cannot afford to keep increasing spending for a district that barely increases enrollment every year.

Why do those without children have to pay property taxes to fund schools? Let those who have children pay for their own children’s education. User taxes are the only fair way to go.

Kansas is a financial wasteland because of Gov. Sam Brownback’s monumental failed “experiment.” Also, the welfare for farmers has gone on long enough. Kansas is yet another embarrassment for Republicans.

Someone commented that the general public wants to keep 3.2 beer and to keep food and alcohol separate. Everyone I know wants just the opposite – grocery stores selling liquor and the demise of the foolish 3.2 beer laws. The writer must be living in the state of denial.

The spare parts work that Boeing took from Spirit may not be much, but imagine when Boeing replaces the 737 and decides to do it in South Carolina. Those who thought the divestiture was such a good thing are going to be wearing a lot of egg.

If the good Lord intended for us to smoke tobacco or marijuana, he would have designed us with a smokestack coming out of the top of our head.

So John Kasich’s votes are supposed to be Donald Trump’s? Add “delusional” to the rest of Trump’s characteristics. Kasich supporters are the most intelligent of all Republicans.

Obama blathers on about how dangerous Trump’s lack of knowledge on foreign policy and nuclear arms would be for our country. Who’s to blame for every pitiful foreign deal he makes now? Who lets North Korea threaten us now because of his incompetence?

I was proud of Sen. Jerry Moran for showing some backbone by favoring a hearing for Merrick Garland. Now he’s changed his mind and is meekly following the Republican leaders as they follow each other, like lemmings, off the edge of a cliff.

The post office tells you to raise the red flag so carriers know you have mail to go out. The post office tells you not to raise the red flag so thieves will not know you have mail for delivery. Which chicken with their head chopped off is in charge of the post office?
