Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, does not rule out a possible primary challenge to Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., according to Jim Richardson, Pompeo’s 2014 campaign manager. But if Pompeo does run, he would face strong opposition from the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “I would hope that Rep. Pompeo would make a decision to stay in the House of Representatives,” NRSC chairman Roger Wicker told Politico, calling Moran a “champion for not only Kansas values but also conservative Kansas values.” Moran chaired the NRSC during the 2014 campaign cycle in which Republicans gained control of the U.S. Senate. – Phillip Brownlee
