May God bless Hesston Police Chief Doug Schroeder for his courage and humility in a very trying situation in Hesston. He no doubt saved lives by taking action, even as he risked his own life.

Three were killed in Hesston in that incident, and it rocked our world. There were 35 homicides in Sedgwick County in 2015. Not to diminish any of this, but were the 35 any less tragic because they were spread out? When will this stop?

Why is it that I can do all my personal banking electronically and file my taxes electronically, but I have to stand in line for two hours to mark a ballot with a pencil and stuff it in a cardboard box to vote for president?

What Einstein thought they were being smart to have a countywide caucus at one site? And you might want to check the calendar and see if there are other events at the same site. Duh.

If the Republicans who waited in line for hours to vote really were educated and informed, they would have read The Eagle or the Republican Party e-mails and preregistered for the caucus. I got in and out in less than 10 minutes to place my vote for John Kasich.

I love Topeka’s new mantra: Rob from the poor, give to the rich, and attack teachers.

To all the Democrats who are offended our taxes were cut and want the legislators to have increased funding so the state can spend more on everything: You are not held back from sending money to the state and marking the check “donation.”

Republican legislators are not subtle. Every day they find a new way to try to take authority away from local governments, school boards, county governments and the federal government, and to bring decisions under their control. Apparently, limited government means state government to them.

Governments are not businesses. If a businessman could run government, one would not choose a business speculator and flimflam man who has a record of failed businesses and multiple bankruptcies.

If 69-year-old Donald Trump were in my fourth-grade class, I’d have to take him out into the hallway for a discussion about appropriate behavior.

Even Trump’s downside is better than any upside Hillary Clinton has.

Some of our ancient countries have not survived because of moral decay. Is our good old USA headed that way?

The men’s college basketball tournament should be made up of the top 64 teams in the country by rank and should not include teams like Hillbilly State just because it wins the Greater Hillbilly State Tournament.

Only a few springlike days, but already the screaming leaf blowers are out in force. I hate those things.
