Wichita has six extra large new residents
It is great that six new elephants arrived safely in Wichita Friday and are now adjusting at the Sedgwick County Zoo. The elephants were flown here from the southern African nation of Swaziland, which no longer had the capacity to support the elephants or protect them from poachers. They are the first new elephants at the zoo in more than 40 years. They are joining Stephanie, an aging South African elephant who has been alone at the zoo since Cinda died in November 2014. The animals will soon be featured at the zoo’s new exhibit, Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley, which is scheduled to open in May. Welcome to Wichita, and America. – Phillip Brownlee
