Three decades ago a president highly venerated by the Republican Party took great credit for the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. Now they have a candidate espousing the building of another wall, and they are backing him. Did we not learn anything?


I’ve always respected the sitting pope, though I’m not Catholic. But not this one. He is a loudmouthed communist, and he should keep his mouth shut regarding American politics.


We keep hearing about separation of state and religion. The pope needs to keep out of politics.


My son and I visited Rome in 2001. We walked past the guards into the Vatican and toured the Basilica as well as the Sistine Chapel. We were allowed free access. There are no walls.


Sean Hannity says we need to jump-start capitalism. That means only one thing – less taxes for them and more taxes for us.


I am shocked that congressional leaders are telling President Obama to work by using their approach – pound your chest, utter inane political slogans, but do nothing when the Constitution commands the president of the United States to nominate a candidate for an opening on the Supreme Court.


The family of Justice Antonin Scalia should be grateful that President Obama did not attend his funeral. Obama would have made the proceedings all about himself, as we have seen before.


The president’s decision not to attend Scalia’s funeral was a proper one. Had he attended, it would have become about him, with the current argument over a replacement, and detracted from the proper recognition of the justice.


Why worry about anything? This “evolution-believing idiot” thinks all the God-believing idiots need to pray more. From the looks of things, God either isn’t doing anything for us or never existed.


Regarding a comment advocating that pregnant women who smoke be fined: In all fairness and equality, a man who smokes around his pregnant wife should be fined as well. Secondhand smoke can harm two lives.


Just because other states are stupid enough to raise their speed limits to 80 mph doesn’t mean we should in Kansas. Do we really want all the bad drivers going even faster? The downside vastly outweighs any upside.
