Kansas Democrats targeting Scapa, Anthimides

Two House seats in south Wichita are among the nine statewide that Democrats are putting a special focus on in the November election, as discussed at their state convention over the weekend and reported by the Lawrence Journal-World. Elizabeth Bishop plans to challenge Republican incumbent Rep. Joe Scapa, who won by just 28 votes in 2014. And former local TV anchor Justin Kraemer has said he will run against Republican Rep. Steven Anthimides, who won in 2014 by 129 votes. The GOP’s control of the House is hardly threatened, but as Hawver’s Capitol Report noted, picking up nine House seats “would give Democrats and moderate Republicans enough votes to make policy.” – Rhonda Holman
