The amount of federal funding that Kansas has forfeited by not expanding Medicaid has topped $1 billion, according to a ticker on the Kansas Hospital Association website. “This 10-figure sum represents a loss of nearly 11 Kansas taxpayer dollars every second since Jan. 1, 2014,” KHA said in a news release. This funding is important to supporting Kansas hospitals and would help boost the Kansas economy. In addition, about 150,000 low-income Kansans, most of whom are working, continue to go without health insurance. Meanwhile, the Legislature has yet to even hold a hearing on expansion this session. – Phillip Brownlee
