Kansas GOP strategy: Stick it to the poor, avoid ‘bipartisan’

A memorandum from Kansas Senate Majority Leader Terry Bruce, R-Hutchinson, to his fellow Republicans lays out a political strategy for the current legislative session and the upcoming election, the Topeka Capital-Journal reported. One key focus is to place more restrictions on welfare benefits and to block attempts to expand Medicaid, which Bruce said was “the antithesis of what Republicans stand for.” He also recommended that GOP candidates use words and phrases such as “accountable,” “effective” and “end wasteful spending,” and avoid saying “bipartisan,” “common sense” and “transparent.” – Phillip Brownlee
