Area legislative forum showed need for more

Saturday’s area legislative delegation forum in Haysville had some heated moments, with attendees frustrated by the controlled format at times unproductively erupting into incivility. But the standing-room-only event also showed that voters are engaged and interested, as it highlighted big and small items under discussion at the Statehouse – ranging from speed limits and child welfare to the Clean Power Plan and appellate judge retention elections. Such opportunities for face-to-face interaction have been too rare recently in south-central Kansas. Sen. Michael O’Donnell, R-Wichita, current chairman of the delegation, should keep the forums coming. – Rhonda Holman
