Area delegation giving multiple forums another try

The south-central Kansas legislative delegation had stopped holding more than one public forum a year, doubting such events’ value in part because of how special interests can dominate them. To his credit, Sen. Michael O’Donnell, R-Wichita, chairman of the delegation this year, has scheduled a South-Central Kansas Delegation Forum from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Haysville Public Library, 210 Hays Ave., with plans for one in March and perhaps another in April. O’Donnell asks that questions be submitted 24 hours in advance to Blake.Carpenter@house.ks.gov or Michael.ODonnell@senate.ks.gov, or on a postcard provided at the meeting – a requirement that separates the delegation from the public. The rules for the forum also call for respectful behavior. Good attendance by both legislators and citizens Saturday will help ensure these forums continue. – Rhonda Holman
